Cross Tattoo Designs

One of the most ancient, widespread, and important symbols, the cross in many forms predates Christianity, and the vertical and horizontal lines of the cross carry symbolic power to represent Father and Mother Nature.

Historically, cruciform designs have included the Egyptian ank or tau, the Hindu swastika, Thor's Hammer, and the crux ansata. It goes without saying that some crosses, like the satanic cross (an inverted Christian cross), the swastika, and other broken crosses can be offensive to some people, so consider this before getting a tattoo.

The four arms of the cross can represent the four elements, and its central point their synthesis. When considering a cross tattoo, its long lines require that it be placed on a spot that won't experience much muscular or skin distortion. Nothing looks worse than wobbly lines on a delicate or intricate cross tattoo.

There are also celtic cross tattoo designs characterized by the interwoven knots of Celtic tattoos, the St. Andrew's Cross tattoos, the Knight's Templar cross tattoos, and St Peter's cross tattoos.
