Any good parlor will give you detailed aftercare information. 

While this varies, there are certain common themes like proper washing, moisturizing, and protection.  Following these instructions rigorously will ensure your tattoo turns out as good as it looked when freshly inked, and that you won't face any unnecessary complications during healing. 

Failure to follow the studio's instructions can result in faded ink, excessive scabbing, rejection of the ink by your immune system, a spotty or broken design, and even infections. Aftercare is essential, and there are products specifically designed to help your tattoo heal properly.
